2021 Week 12: Crusaders @ Broncos

This is the most important game of the Broncos 2021 season so far. I mean, that's pretty needless to say - it's a Monday Night clash between the Broncos and their "nemesis" division rivals: the reigning champion Los Angeles Crusaders. All eyes are on my guy Jared Coffey right now. And, knowing his track record, I am convinced he's going to choke it away.

...but, if you can believe it, he's actually kind of kicking ass. Am I dreaming?

In the first quarter, he throws this brass-balls strike into the tiniest of windows to convert on 3rd and 6 in Crusaders territory. 95% of quarterbacks wouldn't dare try to thread the needle in this situation. The Broncos have the momentum! This is not a drill, everyone!

By the fourth, the Broncos were sitting pretty up 24-21. It can't be happening - is Jared Coffey really going to beat Elias Floyd for the first time since 2019?

Well...

There's 1:48 to go. It's 2nd and goal, and the Broncos are down 28-24, needing a touchdown to win.

Gut check time. Out trots the notorious Jared Coffey.

And now you understand what the Jared Coffey Experience is like. God it's hard to root for this guy sometimes.

With a golden opportunity to take the lead late in the game, Coffey messes up a wide open touchdown and gets his target killed. After this total gaffe, the Broncos ran two more unsuccessful plays. The Crusaders walked away with the win and the media showered them with praise for their incredible goal-line stand.

Let's peek behind the curtains here: nobody shifted to cover Broncos HB Tranqell Green after he went in motion, leaving him wide open at the snap of the ball. Coffey needs to put some heat on that throw. There's obviously going to be a defender scrambling to recover, what's he doing floating that soft-serve crap?

Maybe it's because Green (a running back) isn't exactly known for his hands, but there just wasn't enough time for Coffey to throw a rainbow. I'm sure Green himself would agree - that had to hurt.

No matter how you slice it, that was a bad throw, and it really cost the team. How many times to you hear yourself saying that about Jared Coffey after a Broncos loss?

"Dread it. Run from it. A Broncos choke still arrives."
